Toddlers and pre-school
Healthy newborns are constant learners and face challenges of changing environments. They grow rapidly while they develop language and motor skills. Early exposure to reading and language skills is important to school and educational success. A healthy diet with grains, vegetables and fruits and daily exercise is so important to the development of a healthy lifestyle. Parents are encouraged to learn more about healthy lifestyle issues by speaking to Dr. Stokes.
Elementary school
School teachers, peers, friends and neighbors play an important role in the emotional health and well-being of children. Children develop life long skills, confidence, morals, values, and emotional /behavoiral responses prior to age 7. These experiences are neurologically and psychologically embedded. Children require constant supervision and supportive positive interpretation of early life experiences in order to develop healthy images of themselves and their world. Television, computer video games, graphic images, and unhealthy lifestyle choices by family and friends is discouraged.
Pre-teen and Teens
More and more teens are isolated, lonely, and depressed by this age. School is boring. They view parents as restrictive, and they easily adopt a lifestyle with drugs, unhealthy choices of food, music, friends, sex, etc...as their preferred lifestyle. Dr. Stokes supports families and teens through these difficult years with alternative suggestions for the development of a healthy, confidant teenager.
